Barbara Ransom was a Pennsylvania certified school teacher before her life took some interesting twists and for the last 25 years has litigated on behalf of individuals, classes and advocacy organizations in cases ensuing from the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Ms. Ransom began her legal career at the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia where she developed skills to practice from administrative hearings to the U.S Supreme Court. She continued the practice of law at Disability Rights California for four years and is now a bi-coastal attorney – splitting her time between the East and West Coasts as she continues to learn how to implement rights secured under the 14th Amendment to the advantage of those who otherwise would not have access to the courts.
Ms. Ransom’s advocacy has involved claims arising from the denial of: appropriate education services, community integration, a discrimination-free work environments, public accommodations, and public services – always with the goal of ensuring that persons with disabilities are integral, functioning members of our society entitled to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Ms. Ransom is a speaker and presenter who infuses her presentations with laws and legal arguments to inspire audiences across the country to know and assert their rights and the rights of others and to challenge the complacency that too often results in the loss of the constitutional guarantees of equal protection, due process and full citizenship.
